Are you a gardener looking for something to spice up your plot? Look no further than the American Purple Top Rutabaga! This powerful little plant packs big flavor. It produces large, round yellow roots with a purple crown and fine-flavored flesh that's sweet and firm, and turns golden when cooked. Forged by 17th century Bohemian farmers, who found value in its sweet flavor as both cattle fodder and desirable in the kitchen, Scandinavian farmers truly made the rutabaga their own by cultivating it frequently enough to coin it as the "Swedish turnip".

American Purple Top is an heirloom strain of rutabaga that is easy to grow and matures in about 90 days. Direct sow these good-looking seeds into rich soil with full sun, about 1/2" deep. When they're ready for thinning out, keep about 4-6" between them to help produce larger roots - just don't forget the mulch! With a few precautionary measures like removing pests, your fresh rutabagas will be ready to pull or dig in no time. And once they've experienced some hard frosts, top off each root with about an inch before storing them in a cool place or refrigerating them for up to 6 months. Ready to roll? American Purple Top Rutabagas are waiting here for you!
